“1
Km. Of Blankets” Campaign
Poverty
is an important barrier for the optimal development of a country´s
population, but lacking social consciousness among the citizens
of a country presents an even greater barrier in the country’s´
evolution since it limits the importance of shared responsibility
and common success.
Fostering solidarity and humanity among different sectors
of the Mexican society is one of GHA´s main goals. It
is of utmost importance to foster empathy and solidarity among
people who live in very different realities within the same
country.
The “1 km. of Blankets” Campaign has two main
objectives:
• To foster social and community leadership in children
and teenagers as well as corporations and private enterprises.
•
To provide blankets to people who live in conditions of extreme
poverty and who are exposed to extreme weather conditions.
This campaign involves
the help of dozens of schools and education institution, sponsors,
hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors. Through this
campaign they develop awareness that the change we need in
the world can be obtained from the sum of all the parts. The
sum of all the love, interest and teamwork make the biggest
annual blanket collection of Mexico.
Our annual drive
takes place one day in November, on Ave. de la Reforma –
Mexico City’s most important avenue – at the Angel
de la Independencia, a symbol of freedom and social fight.
Sensitizing sessions at many schools, visits to exposed communities,
humanistic and artistic expression spaces make this campaign
one of a kind.
Blankets are distributed
during the weeks following the drive, to inhabitants in the
most vulnerable areas of Mexico City and exposed populations
near the Nevado de Toluca.
Students from very
diverse backgrounds are actively involved in collecting and
distributing these blankets, making our campaign a bridge
of different realities and many possibilities.
Objectives:
• Foster Social Consciousness and Citizen Participation.
• To implement a High Social Impact Campaign that promotes
social leadership and responsibility.
• To offer support and a sense of faith to people who
live in conditions of extreme poverty.
• To inspire children and youth to become leaders in
community work.
